Picturesque and imposing castles, surprising museums or authentic
mills...

Also breweries and gueuze cutlery, beautiful square farms with artisanal regional producers are abundant here.

And for action and relaxation, there's something for everyone...

 Woestijn ?

The name "Woestijn"?
Strange name at first sight but actually it is not : it is derived from 'wastine', a wasteland, undeveloped area in the early Middle Ages and perhaps overgrown with grasses, heather, shrubs and trees. Shepherds herded their flock there during the day. Until a few centuries ago there were such extensive wastines everywhere in Flanders and Brabant.

Experience the region

Budding spring flowers, white blossoms from the orchards, sweltering warmth above the hayfields make the undulations of the walking province of Flemish Brabant, once again the most beautiful paintings. Throughout the year, it's the perfect time to get some vitamins and oxygen by taking a brisk walk before heading back to the cosy terraces.

Look for nice places in our region. Whether it's hiking or biking, a culinary or artistic highlight, or a subdued reminder of dark days; the Pajottenland has many winter wonders to overwhelm you.
Stroll along the Zepposmolen mill with its rich history, the last mill in the Pajottenland that is still mills and enjoy a wide view over the Ledeberg, the Dender valley and rolling fields and meadows.

Developed by Tourism Pajottenland & Zenne Valley in close collaboration with the Regional Guides Pajottenland & Zenne Valley, the car route starts and ends at the castle of Gaasbeek. A 65 km long tour then leads you past some of the region's most beautiful spots and tourist attractions which are unfortunately still unknown to many people. Groups of friends, colleagues, associations and families can also make this fascinating voyage of discovery accompanied by a regional guide.

In our municipality there are a number of walking loops, which are well signposted with hexagonal signs. https://www.toerismevlaamsbrabant.be/producten/wandelen/woestijnwandeling/

In addition, there is also a section of the Pajottenland Walking Network in Roosdaal and the cycle and mountain bike network runs right through De Woestijn.
